Department of Biology
Villanova’s Department of Biology, housed in the Mendel Science Center, comprises 21 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, along with additional instructors, adjunct faculty members, visiting faculty members, and post-doctoral fellows, all supported by skilled and dedicated staff. Our teaching efforts focus on an outstanding undergraduate program, graduating about 80 majors each year, as well as excellent graduate programs at the Masters level. We pride ourselves in offering opportunities for students at all levels to make significant contributions to all phases of laboratory and field investigation. A degree in biology from Villanova allows pursuit of a wide range of careers in medicine and the allied health sciences, research, teaching, environmental science, and industry.
As a member of this vibrant learning and research community, you examine the integration and diversity of living systems from the subcellular to the ecosystem levels, reach an understanding of fundamental biological principles and processes, and develop technical and problem solving skills that have broad application.
The Master of Science degree in the Department of Biology offers students the opportunity to pursue advanced study in biology through both coursework and independent research. All M.S. students will prepare and defend a thesis based on their independent research.
