Research, explore and experience the study of life from the molecule to the landscape.
The Department of Biology serves undergraduate and graduate students by laying the foundation for tomorrow's professionals. We have extensive resources to support teaching and research interests in cell biology, ecology and more. Our facilities continue to be upgraded by major external awards and we maintain several research collaborations with the Sanford School of Medicine.
The Ph.D. is the highest degree in biology. Working with many of our top notch professors, students are trained to be expert research scientists in their field of choice. Students may choose to specialize in bioinformatics, integrative biology or neuroscience. The Doctor of Philosophy in Biological Sciences is intended for students that are interested in careers in research and/or academia.
