Department of Plant Biology
Our department offers a broad spectrum of educational and research opportunities in plant and fungal biology. Both our PhD and MS programs include mix of classes, teaching, and, most importantly, independent research performed with the guidance of a faculty member. Class offerings within the department reflect the breadth of expertise among our faculty, and span topics from biochemistry, molecular genetics, physiology, evolutionary biology, and ecology.
The Department of Plant Biology's MS pogram strengths include a very flexible curriculum to meet the needs of individual students, guaranteed stipend funding, professional development opportunities (teaching, grant writing, mentoring, outreach), and a very active Plant Biology Graduate Student Association (PBGSA).
Through the Plant Biology Graduate Student Association our students participate in the administration of the Department. Student-elected representatives attend faculty meetings and have a vote on most matters considered by the faculty, including new faculty hires. The faculty sends a representative to the meetings of the Graduate Student Association for the purpose of fostering communication between the graduate students and the faculty.
