The master’s concentration in Natural Resources and Environmental Systems offers wide-ranging areas of study to equip our graduates with the knowledge and resources to effectively develop solutions to current and future challenges in environmental sustainability and agricultural production.
Grounded in the basic sciences, the comprehensive curriculum allows students to engage in research and enroll in courses related to: sustainable land management; soil and water conservation; soil and water quality, irrigation design and modeling; insect science and integrated pest management; nutrient transformations in aquatic and terrestrial systems; mushroom production; fungal biology and biotechnology; plant nutrient management; environmental and agricultural sustainability; bioproducts and bioenergy; plant tissue culture; urban and local food systems; environmental biotechnology; nanotechnology, and more.
Professional career opportunities abound in these areas. Our graduates who successfully complete their degrees are readily recruited by industries, schools, universities, or government agencies. Some of the places where our graduates find rewarding careers include Cooperative Extension, USDA, EPA and many private sector firms and international organizations.
